Form Guides (RSB)
Race 1:
Obviously there are many unkowns here but what we do know is that both Pennycomequick and Nine Tales have come out of very strong form races on debut. Pennycomequick ran second to Hawas which has since won and the horse that run third in that Hidden Energy looks to have a future too. Nine Tales competed in the strongest 2yo race of last year. As stated before drawing two that day was no advantage. Both have been scratched for this, it's a guess whether they are dodging bog tracks or chasing more cash. Time will tell.
Race 2 :
Escadeire looks the natural leader in this but don't expect it to go to hard. This brings in horses with good sprints from clear runs. Something Anything and Zzyzx look the most capable of taking advantage. Just going for Zzyzx here on a score of reliability and weight. I can see him striding up to them out deep and running over the top of them. Looked the winner last start but was bloused on the post. Before that was just as good, he's the top rater from Something Anything. He looks like getting a similar run at them in this and has to be respected because he possesses a kick and loves the wet. Stedman is third best. Looking back through racing wrap last year we noted how good his flemington fourth was. This race may not go his way drawn inside on a slow speed but he will be strong on the line and won definitely for multiples.
Race 3 :
Again looks a race devoid of speed. Mr Big is likely to take it up, and perhaps Seven Crownies can be ridden agressively here with his light weight and low draw. I'm sticking with the last start winner Roman's Image who looked very impressive winning at this track. Really stretched out well and has slipped under the radar of the handicapper. He's an Archway horse and we have seen many horses of this breed improve over time and this galloper looks no different. Roman's Image to beat Ista Kareem and Seven Crownies. Ista Kareem powered home in a sit and sprint at Bendigo this might be similar here and has the class to compete. I'm looking for a run from Seven Crownies. A pretty good Brisbane horse that is effective on wet ground. He didn't get much of a crack at them last start...look for an assertive ride and reward.
Race 4 :
Mazzacano stays all day...take the short odds and hope he stays in tact.
Race 5 :
Forest Knight to win the Grand National. I just figure that favourite Hasta Manana may not be allowed to lead like last start with a few natural front runners entered. Can see a few fighting over the lead and it setting it up for a horse to run on like Forest Knight.

Race 6 :
How hard Hunter Hermitage goes in this may sort out your thoughts on who you back here. With a few runs under his belt I'm thinking he will go flat strap and attempt to use his ability to outstay most of these over the 1400m. Tipping then a hot speed! I like Empire Dancer here. Terrific win last start with her strength really apparent on the line. Being a winner over further and showing a liking for soft surfaces I can see her being ridden along from barrier two and getting her opportunity to split open the leaders. With the speed on and the heavy ground the weight relief from the class horses in this looks critical. Empire Dancer to beat Scenic Assault. He looked great again last start only to be beaten by a very good one in Rum Corps. Importantly in that run he managed to space the rest. Has shown a liking to the track, shouldn't crack on a hot speed and must come into it. Next best is Haddle Macdaddle. But you can make a case for others like Caprizzi Strip and Chiack to fill a minor.
Race 7:
Four strong hopes in this Hoodlum, Instructor, Reliability and Light Vision. The winner will come from these four. This is the kind of race you may want to place multiple win bets on as discussed in the June Newsletter. Hoodlum was going places until it hit the Valley, looked uncomfortable there forget that run...big track suits a big horse. Instructor was very impressive at Bendigo deserves to be in your thoughts here. Reliabilty did well last start against a slow speed. Extra distance suits he looks to be right on his game with two encouraging runs in unsuitable events. Light Vision has ability and showed it last start. Suggest to have a dip at the first three and save on Light Vision. Just because of the likely value going to make Hoodlum the top rater.
Race 8:
This looks a little easier! Lucky Secret the weapon that he is should account for these. If something absurd happens and Lucky Secret falls in a heap perhaps a small saver on Jennings to cover it. He likes this track and should be strong on the line. Corporal Nediym is next best.
