Caulfield
1- The talented Zipanese shot through here to win comfortably from on-pacers Not That Innocent and Lucky Diva. My suggestion is to not read too much into the form here, the topweights needed this hitout with their big imposts and considering that Lucky Diva and ReadyforCatherine ran pretty close to expectations. Zipanese had the weight and enough talent to take advantage of that, the rest a midweek class. Home in 34.18 running a half second slower than Ra Sun’s win in the open sprint.
2- Cool Trent a marked drifter in this race put his best forward to narrowly defeat Bella Princess at the juicy odds of 13-1. Running along at a reasonable speed Byway led them into the straight but was quickly claimed by Bella Princess and Cool Trent. No excuses here as Cool Trent was too good for Bella Princess who had every chance and Byway ran another disappointing third. We liked the first two so I hope you profited…home in 35.13.
3- In a farsically run race Hanna Rossa did a great job by screaming down the outside to win this. She’s an improved galloper and looks to have this class of horse covered for the time being. Great battle for the minors with the wandering Fullazz defying a protest to claim second from Diamond Cove who had every chance and Dirty Denim who was flat-footed when they sprinted but hit the line well. Baster rode Betsy Pie rather ordinary, in a slowly run-race he went looking for cheap inside runs on a horse that responds to being wound up into his races, I’d suggest to look for a change of jockey next start or more aggressive tactics. Home in 34.02
4-Publishing dominated this race. What is likeable about this colt is his ability to outsprint them and then improve on this in running to the line. Very impressive. In a different class Sazonar, Test of Time and General Ralph all finished together. Sazonar made the more difficult run from the back and ducked in under pressure, Test of time and General Ralph were ok but a bit one-paced. Home in 34.51 follow the winner.
5- Ra Sun perfectly ridden just had enough turn of foot here for the Hong-Kong galloper Lucky Unicorn. Message Bank swept to a comfortable lead on straightening but laboured under hard riding and was a sitting duck for back markers. Ra Sun took advantage of a nice split up the straight and hit the line well to win. Lucky Unicorn seemed to improve the deeper the race became, so it might be suited by a touch more ground, and Raid the Royals had to make his run from an awkward position. He looked good running on but that’s about his level. Allstar was outclassed a tad and The Lanz was disappointing after looming strongly. Home in 34.03. Good Overall.
6- Bon Henri found his line and length today and kept going at the one bat to be too consistent for these. Mono Rock was the best of the rest and was rewarded with a second placing. King’s Champ had the run of the race and scrapped into third in front of the disappointing Two Sons. We suggested he would have to come from an awkward position to win, and that’s how it turned out. But he was pretty ordinary all the same. Home in 35.10
7- Jukebox Johnny put some much needed life into the programme with a nice sweeping win from the tale to claim the last. A very nice win but in saying that he didn't pass much. Hofmeister loomed up on the turn but only crept down the straight, Ulyssess pinched a saloon rails run but was well beaten by Jukebox who had the tougher run. And Obglo was honest without being inspiring. Home in 35.23, running a good overall a tick over 2:01.
Win of the Day
Hanna Rossa- Defied a slow speed to claim the third.
Horses to Follow- Publishing, Lucky Secret (running midweek)
