Caulfield
Exclusive Report 18th October
Please Note Selections are Based on A prediction that the track may favour swoopers as the inside part of the track has been well used and the rail is only out 6 metres- keep that in mind and watch how the track plays.
Race 1: 6-7-2

Double dipping on a best bet proposed last start in Ampho Power. This horse leading into it's last run showed every sign of a really good horse. Don't think coming off the rail is going to be any disadvantage and in such a small field there should be no excuses. Last start he stepped out favourite at Geelong synthetic had his momentum thwarted at a critical stage before the final turn and was under pressure from there on. It responded and was still coming on the line weaving through traffic. Forget that - his starts before were all impressive. His on his home track, Jim Mason has set her for this and will get a clear shot at them down the outside. I like her. Mine Game could well be her equal on ability and I hope they shut the door on her as she will proably lob 4th/5th the rail. In saying that she is second best. Impressive second at Kyneton. Lodore Falls is right in this race as well. Should power away from the other on-pacers she will go close. Movin Out next best.
Race 2: 5-6-1

Two good ones in this in Poco Gusto and Rocha. Poco Gusto settled back last start, knocked a fer over and looked awesome in winning at Ballarat. Think she will get the extra distance against her own age and looks the one. Rocha was a huge run last start and stamps herself as a horse to watch over the longer trips. Will need a quality ride to win from the one barrier as she is a big horse, but only an ounce of luck needed and she will push Poco Gusto. A distant third best is the consistent Testa Monte.
Race 3: 9-6-1

Again this is a great race and going with Heart of Dreams again. Zero luck last start many of us including myself are still hurting after last start but I think we will get something back here. Him and Caymans are standouts in this race to my eye. I told you Heart Of Dreams is a good horse so you know that now what I liked about his last run was that he knocked two horses over to get out and then ran home like an absolute rocket. Drawn three if Oliver is required to hold positions or knock a few over to get the job done in this he knows the horse can handle some buffeting. I We thought he would get the back of the good speed horses last start - well he couldn't get there with a few thoroughbred roadblocks placed in front of him. But this time I think he won't have those same problems and should rip past them here. Third best then Tindal.
Race 4: 4-9-1-5
Again like three in this Emperor Bonaparte, The Tiger and Excelltastic. Always been a fan of the Montjeu 3yo Emperor Bonaparte and didn't it look the part last start. He's good enough to win this and should win. The Tiger though is the one I'll be backing, mainly the place. He's really dour and tough, he had no chance on a crawling speed and was dissapointed for a run at a critical part of the straight at Flemington last start after being too good at Ballarat. Once it got serious he was going again and was the best horse on the line to my eye. Here he should be able to lob fourth with cover behind Wookah, Excelltastic and Trustus rolling foward or even Falken. I'm sure he will be asked to really test them at the 600m mark similar to Pillar of Hercules last year in the Norman Robinson and he will be fighting like a Tiger for you...The Tiger! Excelltastic is clearly third best, really tough horse who can get the rail up near the lead and be a real menace again.
Race 5: 14-2-1-7-18

Vandalo clearly here. This is a good bet in this. They put the money on him first up in a really strong race at Benalla and he never got near 10 let alone five off the rail, and I really liked the way he ran home - looked keen and good. Might not look that great in the form guide 5 lenghts 8th in the form guide at Benalla but he'll bely that here. You couldn't beat this horse at Caulfield early this year at this distance, he was too good even when they put 58kg on his back and was forced to cover ground. El Cambio next best from Snipers Bullet. Throw in Pinnacles and Chasm as well.
